How to speak to sell with free speaking gigs

Is your main goal to be seen as a go-to expert and an authority in your industry? The most powerful way you can do that is through speaking?

So the question is, how can you get in, remain in, stay relevant, and break through the noise?

If you know me, I have used speaking to get my first ever clients when I started this business in 2019 and it was the easiest thing that I ever did because it allowed me to give my audience a win and invite them to work with me.

Don’t get me wrong, I love speaking!

It’s one of the core strategies I use to fill my packages month after month. And I’ll be honest with you: there’s nothing more rewarding or exciting than the feeling after you’ve spoken to a group filled with your ideal clients.

When I was first introduced to the idea of being a speaker, I thought that I had to get on a stage in front of thousands of people.

But that couldn’t be further from the truth.

There are so many different types of speaking…and so many of them don’t require that you get on a plane to get on a physical stage in front of people.

So the question is, how to actually find and book speaking gigs?

I’ve compiled a list of the top three ways I’ve found speaking gigs and how I’ve encouraged my clients to find speaking gigs.

  1. Ask your network what recent events they’ve attended or podcasts they are listening to
  2. Approach the admin of a Facebook group to host/co-host a training that would benefit the group
  3. Google search industry events like [Industry] + Conference  or Call for Speakers + [Topic]. Add year and location to these searches

And I know..

As an online business owner, it’s highly possible you’ve convinced yourself that speaking in front of an audience simply isn’t for you—after all, you’re a business coach, not a speaker…right?

I know many entrepreneurs who jump to running paid ads on social media to find more clients.

When this happens, I think about what a huge opportunity they are missing out on. Ads are not only expensive, but they also take time to test and tweak.

Yes, it takes time to reach a cold audience through an ad! This is precisely why I love speaking.

Speaking allows you to immediately connect with your audience. Even in a virtual setting, you can still build the know, like, and trust factor very quickly.

Even better, speaking is also a way to build your email list, your social media following, and book sales calls. That means you can have a speaking gig and start to see immediate results!

I recommend that you speak at least twice per month.

Now that you know why and most importantly how to find and book speaking gigs it’s up to you to decide which one best fits your business style so you can finally speak to sell and set your lead generation strategy up for continued growth and success.
